PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS
This species is the most disliked of all cockroaches
since it often travels through sewer pipes and lives on filth.
This cockroach is often called a "waterbug" and in some areas as the "black
beetle".
It likes dark damp places and often live in sewer pipes.
It enters the home through openings around pipes, through air ducts, and vents.
The adult is about 1 inch in length and the female has rudimentary wings. The
male has fully developed wings though neither male nor female fly.
This is mostly an outdoor roach that lives in high moisture areas.
Most movement is seen in the Spring when the weather warms and harborage areas
start to dry.
BREEDING HABITS
Females are far more numerous than males and pairing
takes place any season.
The brown egg capsule contains 16 eggs and is carried from 12 hours to 5 days
and is then deposited in a warm sheltered spot where food in available.
The average incubations period is 60 days; the average development period is 12
months with adults appearing mostly in May, June, and July.
Females can live as long as 181 days.
FEEDING HABITS
These roaches feed on filth and decaying organic
matter.
They can live 1 month without food and 2 weeks without water.
TREATMENT
The regular Pest-A-Way Barrier will control most
infestations of Oriental cockroaches on the exterior, however, if interior
infestations are a problem the technician will treat the interior as well. In
addition one of our Technicians will advise the customer on ways to help
eliminate harborage points that may be contributors to the problem.
